Guru Gobind Singh Ji had a deep respect for all living beings, reflecting the Sikh principle of sarbat da bhala (the well-being of all). He cared for animals such as horses, falcons, and hunting dogs not as luxuries, but as companions in discipline, responsibility, and compassion. Through them, he demonstrated that strength is guided by humility and care.

The Baaj held special significance in Guru Sahib’s life. In the royal and martial traditions of the time, the falcon symbolized freedom, sharp awareness, and fearlessness—qualities that Guru Gobind Singh Ji cultivated in the Khalsa.

While Guru Sahib engaged in shikaar (hunting), it was never for cruelty or pleasure. It served as training in alertness, survival, and warrior ethics, always governed by moral restraint and respect for life.

ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਾਜ਼
ਇਹ ਚਿੱਤਰ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਨੇਹ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਾਜ਼ ਸ਼ਾਹੀਅਤ, ਸਾਹਸ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ “ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ” ਦਾ ਜੀਵੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ, ਬਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਵਿਲਾਸਤਾ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਨ, ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਅਸਲ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਬਾਜ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਧਕ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਜ਼ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ, ਤੀਖੀ ਸੂਝ-ਬੂਝ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਡਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਸੀ—ਉਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰੇ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕਠੋਰਤਾ ਜਾਂ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਸਚੇਤਤਾ, ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਧਾ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਲਈ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਨੈਤਿਕ ਸੰਯਮ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਆਦਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਲਾਉਣਾ ਇੱਕ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਆਤਮਿਕ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ—
ਇੱਕ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤ-ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਜੋ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਿਡਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਖੜਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਅਤੁੱਟ ਦਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ।
