The Story of Mata Gurdai Ji:
After the intense battle of Chamkaur, Guru Gobind Singh Ji found himself in the dense forests of Machhiwara, evading the Mughal forces. It is said that Mata Gurdai Ji was a devoted Sikh who lived in this region. She had heard about Guru Ji’s hardships and had lovingly stitched a new chola (robe) for him, hoping that one day she would have the honor of offering it to him.
By divine grace, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, while traveling through the jungle, found Mata Gurdai Ji’s home. She was overjoyed to see him and offered him the new robe she had made with love and devotion. Guru Ji accepted it, blessing her for her unwavering faith and devotion.
This story highlights:
- Mata Gurdai Ji’s devotion and faith – She had prepared the robe purely out of love for Guru Ji, without knowing if she would ever see him again.
- Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s divine presence – He found his way to her, showing that the Guru always reaches his true devotees.
This lesser-known story is a beautiful example of Sikh devotion, selfless service (Seva), and unwavering faith in the Guru.
